Imagine a scale. Not the kind you stand on to weigh yourself but the kind you often see referred to as the scales of justice. One side of the scale represents the healthy aspects of a relationship and the other side represents the unhealthy aspects. Visualization is often a great way to analyze situations and make decisions; decisions that otherwise would continue to weigh heavily on your heart.
This week I’d like to highlight the most generous, kind-hearted woman I know Jeanne Pavlica. She not only has an extraordinary green thumb, but is Mother Nature incarnate. Jeanne is most at home in the natural world and finds joy in gardening wild flowers, organic vegetables and herbs.
WOW! Have you seen this news story, “10-year-old hosts confidence conference to help girls start school year”? Such an inspirational story. It’s simply remarkable that such a young lady is able to identify a situation and make the effort to do something about it.
This week I’d like to highlight one of the fiercest and most adventurous ladies I know Kelly Mack. From a young age, Kelly was a confident, fireball of energy. She absolutely loves life to her core and lives each day with a vigor you can’t help but admire.
SLEEP. For many, sleep is something we only dream of (no pun intended). When did this happen? We used to know for a fact that it was important to get 8 full hours of sleep in order to be healthy. Now, we treat the activity of sleep as an option. A luxury that we are not always worthy of.
Each week I’m going to be featuring a special, inspiring story about a fabulous, fearless woman and her best buddy. To kick off my series I decided to pay tribute to one of the most remarkable, beautiful and courageous women I know my Grandma and her beloved Bella. Grandma was the kind of woman we could all only aspire to be: loving, intelligent, witty, hard-working, and fiercely loyal to her family and friends.
Mention reading food labels and most people would rather talk about…. well…just about anything else. Food labels are a helpful tool that we love to hate. While some of the information is straight forward and easy to read; some requires a more intense thought process in order to obtain the info.
Heat olive oil in a sauce pan and sauté the onions and parsley until the onions are translucent. Transfer to a mixing bowl. Add the ground turkey, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt and pepper. Mix and combine into a loaf. Coat a loaf pan with olive oil cooking spray and transfer the meatloaf. Drizzle ketchup over the top, sliced onions, salt and pepper.
Many of you may have wondered why I named my golden retriever Gatsby. After all, it’s not very traditional, but it suits him perfectly. As a high school teacher my all-time favorite novel to teach was The Great Gatsby, which truly illustrates the American dream, particularly the symbolic green light at the end of Daisy’s dock.
You would be surprised (or maybe you wouldn’t) to know the amount of people who feel that the words “health” and “wellness” are synonymous with “diet” and “exercise.” Mention the words health and wellness to someone and watch their body language change, look for the eye-roll, and expect the conversation to change pretty quickly. Call me weird, but I love health and wellness because it is so much more than changing your eating habits and developing an exercise routine.
