As all you Mommas know your dog does not function at full capacity unless you keep him properly hydrated (an average dog needs between 8.5 to 17 ounces of water per 10 pounds per day depending on activity level). Well guess what?! Neither do you! The Institute of Medicine  recommends roughly 9 cups of water per day for women (and 13 cups per day for men). In addition, you get your water intake through the foods you eat. Many fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, cucumber and spinach, are 90 percent or more water by weight.

This summer make an effort to monitor your water intake and your pup will be thanking you for all the extra energy (plus your skin will glow)! Here are some ideas:

Start Your Day with Warm Lemon Water: Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into 1 cup warm water (or use lemon essential oil). Lemon water is great for immunity (lemons are loaded with Vitamin C and potassium) and reduces inflammation by alkalizing the body. Lemon water also helps flush out toxins and encourages healthy digestion.

Throughout the Day: Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. You can even add strawberries, mint and citrus fruit to give your water some flavor. Water bottles and pitchers with fruit diffusers can easily be found on Amazon.

To Reduce Bloating: (or you have a special event the next day!): Make a pitcher of water the night before, refrigerate and drink the whole pitcher throughout the day to flush everything out.

Flat Belly Diet Water

  • 2 Liters water
  • 1 tsp. grated ginger root
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
  • 12 mint leaves

Combine all ingredients in a pitcher and refrigerate overnight 🙂
