swimwear-fashions Summer is finally here, and with the weather heating up, no more hiding under your over sized sweater!! But don’t fret. Here are five simple tweaks that will keep you looking bikini ready all summer long:

Be consistent!!! The only way to maintain a stellar figure is to be consistent about your exercise routine and diet. For instance, if you workout consistently 3-4 times a week you will see real results. BUT if you make it to the gym some weeks and then slack off others, you will not see the payoff you desire.

Further, you cannot just stop your routine once you reach your goal weight. You MUST keep being consistent to maintain it, which is why I encourage my clients to develop sustainable lifestyles. It might take a little longer to lose the weight, but when you follow a wacky diet and exercise plan that you have no prayer of keeping up for the long haul; you’re just putting stress on your body from the yo-yo dieting, not to mention the emotional component.

Color your plate!!! Make sure at least 50% to 75% of your plate is filled with colorful veggies and greens!! Filling up on antioxidant packed, high-fiber carbohydrates will keep you feeling full. This will also encourage you to pass on the unwanted starchy carbohydrates (hamburger buns, pasta salads, chips) and sweets. Not to mention your skin will be glowing!!

Pump up the protein!!! Be sure to include lean protein at every meal, including snacks. Protein keeps your metabolism firing and energy levels up all day long. And again, it will keep you feeling satisfied so you will be less likely to overindulge in unwanted calories (French fries, cookies, ice cream).

Stay hydrated! We don’t function at full capacity when we’re dehydrated. Think about how you feel after a weekend BBQ filled with too many margaritas and beer! Probably a little bloated in the tummy for starters right?! Make an effort to stay hydrated all summer long, and not only will your bloat be a thing of the past, but you will curtail unhealthy snacking. Many times when we think we’re hungry it’s because we are really dehydrated so always drink a glass of water first. And as a general rule, drink half of your body weight in water per day. You can even add strawberries and citrus fruit to spice it up!! Pitchers with fruit infusers are simple to find online.

Exfoliate your way to glowing skin! As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down, which means that your body is slower to shed dead skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up, it can leave your skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Proper exfoliation, however, removes the barrier of dead skin cells and uncovers fresh new cells below. It also gets your lymphatic system going and helps in the prevention of cellulite, making your skin look fresh and healthy. Plus all those self tanners cannot penetrate your skin without proper exfoliation ladies!! It is most easily accomplished before showering with a dry skin brush (with strokes towards your heart) or by using a scrub in the shower.
